50 Million Years

50 million years from now I will still be weeping in wonder at what God has done–the news of the Gospel will be no less amazing for being no longer “new”. I never understood before tonight how many shades of conflicted pain can exist in that cry of an adopted son, “Abba! Father!” What insurmountable words for orphan hearts! No wonder we need the Spirit of God to give voice to our cry. No wonder we each need to learn to not be like a slave; to begin to know we are sons and daughters; to begin to grasp that we have a future and hope as heirs. We can barely remember from one minute to the next that we are accepted and loved with unconditional grace! But what if you and I could begin to grasp the truth of what God has done…

“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
