PEDIGREES OF 2 PROPHETIC VIEWPOINTS
WITNESS TO THE FACT THAT THE PAPACY IS THE ANTICHRIST OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES; THAT IT IS A PRESENT REALITY AND NOT A FUTURE FICTION.
The BIGWIGS of Protestant Fundamentalism (and all the Lesser Wigs) repudiate the authorities named on the left below, and their valuable biblical prophetic Witness against the Roman Church and Papacy, because (say they), "They are only men, we cannot take their word." What, pray tell, about the authorities on the right? Are they winged oracles from Mt. Olympus?
Anyhow study the record below -- it will repay study.
TRUTH ~ THE TEACHING THAT THE PAPACY IS THE ANTICHRIST IS AT LEAST 864 YEARS OLD! To cite the early Church Fathers as authorities for the Futurity of Antichrist, as late as in this 20th century, is Jesuitical, is an Error, and is Unfair Teaching Practice. According to Dean Alford, "the Apostolic Fathers can hardly with fairness be cited for it, seeing that for them EVERYTHING WAS FUTURE"! ("The New Testament for English Readers," Vol. II, Part II, page 351.) Hence the following POSITIVE-WITNESS PEDIGREE derived from undisputed Historical sources. 1100 A.D. The Waldenses, Pre-Reformation Protestants, in their creed and in their historic essay, "The Noble Lesson" (1120 A.D.), declare the Antichrist to be the Papacy-- the Dynasty of Popes-- as foretold by Scripture. 1183 A.D. Joachim Abbas, in his "Commentary on the Apocalypse" declared that "the harlot city reigning over the kings of the earth undoubtedly meant Rome" and that Antichrist "would probably issue out of the bosom of the Church." 1235-1253 A.D. Robert Grosthead, Bishop of Lincoln, "boldly proclaimed the Pope to be Antichrist." 1265-1321 A.D. Dante denounced the Church of Rome as the Babylon of the Apocalypse. 1380 A.D. Wycliff, "The Morning Star of the Reformation," declared the Papacy to be the Antichrist of Scripture. My elderly aunt gave me a collection of these old magazines, long out of print. They are fascinating as an example of Protestant polemics and of a viewpoint shared by many Americans in the mid-20th century.
